We offer a collaborative approach focusing on innovation, to help clients achieve their vision. We aim to repurpose buildings to minimise upfront embodied carbon and preserve historic buildings. We are specialists in resurrecting problematic schemes that have come to a standstill. We work closely with Architects, Developers and Contractors, to tailor ideas and guide our clients from planning to building completion. Our past projects span the Caribbean, London and Norfolk.

Sustainability is at the forefront of everyone's minds and rightly so. At Geni, we understand the implications of what we do and how it can impact the environment. We believe that refurbishment of existing buildings that have significant embodied carbon already in them is the future and take great pride in being experts within this field. Historic and listed
Nothing satisfies the senses of a structural engineer more than a historic building with all its unique features. We love some of the heritage that is around us and want this to be preserved. We have the understanding and skills to work on buildings of all eras and our careful and compassionate approach is revered by our clients.

Bespoke Housing
From clifftop villas on the Kent coast to unique townhouses in Richmond. We have delivered many unique schemes housing schemes across the UK. We find our highly collaborative approach well-liked by clients, explaining the process along the way whilst always delivering an efficient and architecturally led design. We are big advocates for Pasiv Haus design and have worked on many schemes with Passiv House approved architects.

Hurricane and Seismic Design
Whilst based in the UK Geni has a wealth of experience in international projects. Nick and George have worked on projects in the Caribbean, Canada, Montenegro and the US. With this experience Geni has a unique specialisation in hurricane and seismic design which is not common for UK based engineers.

Structural assessment and feasibility reports
Geni have a wealth of experience in understanding how and why structures are performing and have been appointed on multiple projects to assess and advise onto resolving structural issues at properties or advising on feasibility options for proposed changes that a client may wish to make. There is no challenge to complex.

George McGrath
Director (MENG CEng MIStructE)
George has a passion for developing simple, elegant, and cost-effective solutions to engineering problems. He continually looks for ways to do things better without unnecessary complications. As a result of this he is well-revered by clients and the design team alike, always looking for practical ways to move projects forward while ensuring that the design brief is met.
George is a highly skilled engineer with a strong international CV, having worked at leading engineering firms in London and Canada. Throughout his work he has contributed to the success of a wide range of projects, including skyscrapers in Vancouver, suspended residential bridge structures in London, and seismic resilient port redevelopments in Montenegro. He has worked with and is competent in all the main building materials including mass timber, and post-tensioned concrete.
George thrives on a positive work environment and promotes this both within those working for Geni and outwards with his work and personal life.
Nick Milburn
Director (MENG CEng MIStructE)
Nick is a structural engineer with a track record of developing exceptional designs on complex and large-scale projects.
Nick has a passion for solving engineering problems and has consistently used this to dramatically reduce build costs and embodied carbon content on his projects. He has unlocked the potential of heavily-constrained sites through innovative design solutions, allowing the reuse of existing structures and improving commercial feasibility.
Nick has exceptional experience leading design teams on major projects across all sectors. These include retail projects containing over 15000t of structural steelwork, 40+ storey residential towers, deep basements and delivering over 1200 residential units on single phase schemes.
Driven by a passion for social impact, Nick is committed to projects that contribute to sustainability and societal well-being, ranging from simple home improvements, social housing and educational initiatives, cultural and leisure facilities, with a particular emphasis on adaptive reuse of buildings.
